General Mental Health

Identifying your areas for growth is the most interesting and rewarding way to study.

Current specialisations available in the Applied Mental Health Studies course include:

  • Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
  • Child and Youth Mental Health
  • Adult Mental Health
  • Older Persons Mental Health

Newly available in 2024 this "general" qualification allows choice of non-core units without reference to the specialisations.

The Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma is offered in 50 hour units over a 5 week teaching period. This includes:

  • Knowledge units: (units with a ‘K’ in the code) that are self-directed, independent learning units. You can enrol in these units at any teaching period and complete at your own pace over 10 weeks. This gives you flexibility to manage your study load.
  • Foundation units: (units with an ‘F” in the code) are only available in one teaching period as shown on the schedule below.
  • Core Units: are units required to completed as part of the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma regardless of specialisation.
  • Specialisation Units: Units required to be completed as part of the specialisation chosen.

Graduate Certificate Applied Mental Health Studies

Degree Structure

There are eight core units and four electives in this degree. Core units carry the code 001 – 009 inclusive with 007 OR 008 required in the sequence. Each specialisation identifies the elective units required for the degree.

NOTE: the following structure applies to Perinatal, Child and Youth, Adult and Older Persons Mental Health, and the new General courses.
