This unit will help you navigate what can seem an overwhelming variety of opinions regarding what is the ‘right approach’ to engaging and providing support to people with mental ill health.

You will explore how to apply principles of partnership and collaborative practice to engage with people with mental ill health and their carers in your own context, and critically evaluate core elements that are the heart of effective resilience building strategies and therapeutic approaches.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  • Explain the core elements of an empathetic and therapeutic relationship; and
  • Demonstrate skills necessary to develop and maintain an appropriate therapeutic relationship.
