This unit will explore potential differences when engaging older people with mental ill-health. The facilitators, challenges and differing methods will be outlined to encourage engagement when working with older people experiencing mental ill-health, including promotion and evaluation. Students will participate in student forum activities to demonstrate application to practice of the unit content with an aim to increasing consumer engagement within their work setting.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. Outline barriers and factors that increase engagement with older people with mental ill-health;
  2. Examine differing methods of engagement with older persons with mental ill-health to promote personal recovery; and
  3. Identify and assess strategies to promote engagement of older people living with mental ill-health with their community and resources to increase wellbeing and promote a recovery approach.
