This unit will explore engagement in child and youth mental health. Challenges that may be encountered and strategies for developing effective engagement with children, young people and their caregivers will be examined. Consideration is given to the child and/or young person’s development stage and the environment they access mental health care and treatment.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate engagement in child and youth mental health settings;
  2. Examine engagement strategies and challenges to effective engagement in child and youth mental health; and
  3. Describe tools and techniques for working with children and young people to improve engagement in mental health care.
