This unit will develop knowledge of psychosis, schizophrenia and related conditions. A lived experience will be explored along with evidence-based treatment approaches that draw on genuine collaboration. Service delivery will be considered in the context of a recovery-oriented and strengths-based approach.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of recovery-oriented and evidence-based approaches for working with people who experience psychosis, schizophrenia and related conditions.

Week 2 Assessment and diagnosis
Week 3 Treatment approaches I - Psychoeducation, functional recovery and relapse prevention
Week 4 Treatment approaches II - Pharmacotherapy and physical health
Week 5 Treatment approaches III - CBT, Open Dialogue and Cognitive Remediation
