In this unit you will explore what is meant by the term biological therapies which includes medications as well as other old and emerging therapies. You will then develop your role in supporting individuals considering, or engaging with, biological therapies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the role of biological therapies in contemporary mental health practice; and
  2. Critically review and apply appropriate support of an individual who may use biological therapies within your role.

Week 1 What are biological therapies?
Week 2 The role of biological therapies in contemporary mental health practice
Week 3 Supporting decision-making. (What is important to those receiving biological therapies?)
Week 4 Supporting the individual (case study with a selected therapy - student choice)
Week 5 Supporting collaboration.
