This unit provides a pathway of study and workplace learning designed to assist you to continually improve the way you support assessment, formulation and care planning with older people with mental health concerns; in a manner that is strength-based, and appropriate to your role and the context of older people you work with. For some students this unit will inform comprehensive assessment and care planning with older people. For others it will inform contributions to specific parts of these processes, including empowering older people within activities.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. Define and describe strengths-based assessment
  2. Examine application of strengths-based assessment with older people using a biopsychosocial framework; and
  3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of care planning consistent with mental healthcare for older people and your professional/workplace context
