At HETI Higher Education, we take pride in recognising the outstanding contributions of healthcare professionals who embody the values of the NSW public service.
One such individual is Elizabeth (Liz) Beveridge, a Child and Family Health Clinical Nurse Specialist in Perinatal Mental Health with Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD).
Liz’s dedication and innovative approach to care recently earned her a place as a finalist in the prestigious NSW Premier’s Awards for Public Service.
Liz Beveridge’s work focuses on supporting families during one of the most critical stages of life, the perinatal period.
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Liz has spent years addressing the complex needs of parents and children, particularly those facing mental health challenges and housing insecurity.
Her commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable families has positioned her as a leader in child and family health services across Integrated and Community Health in WSLHD.
Since 2020, Liz has championed trauma-informed, child-centred care models that prioritise safety, empathy, and collaboration. These models are designed to ensure that families receive holistic support, addressing not only clinical needs but also the social factors that influence health and wellbeing.
One of Liz’s most notable achievements is the establishment of a child and family health clinic in partnership with Flourish Australia. This initiative provides early intervention services for children aged 0–5, helping to identify developmental concerns and offer timely support. By creating a space where families can access integrated care, Liz has improved developmental outcomes and strengthened pathways to mental health services.
Her work extends beyond clinical practice. Liz has been instrumental in enhancing interagency collaboration, ensuring that healthcare providers, community organisations, and support services work together seamlessly. This approach has improved clinical governance and empowered nursing teams to take a leading role in complex care planning.
Effective communication is at the heart of safe healthcare delivery. Recognising this, Liz was actively involved in the development of the developed the “GP Letter,” a tool designed to improve risk communication between health professionals. This innovation has been acknowledged by the NSW Ministry of Health as a quality improvement initiative, highlighting Liz’s ability to identify gaps and create practical solutions that benefit both clinicians and patients.
The NSW Premier’s Awards celebrate excellence across the public sector, recognising individuals and teams who deliver exceptional services to the community. Liz was honoured as a finalist in the Public Servant of the Year category, a testament to her leadership, clinical expertise, and commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.
Being named a finalist is no small achievement. It reflects years of dedication, innovation, and advocacy. Liz’s work exemplifies the values of integrity, service, and accountability that underpin the NSW public service. Her efforts have not only improved care for families but also inspired colleagues across the health system.
Stories like Liz Beveridge’s are powerful reminders of the difference one person can make. For students at HETI Higher Education, Liz’s journey offers valuable insights into the qualities that define effective leadership in healthcare - compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
As healthcare becomes increasingly complex, the need for professionals who can navigate clinical, social, and systemic challenges is greater than ever. Liz’s achievements demonstrate how advanced knowledge and practical skills, combined with a patient-centred mindset, can lead to meaningful change.
Liz Beveridge’s recognition at the NSW Premier’s Awards is more than a personal milestone, it is a celebration of the collective effort to improve health outcomes for families across New South Wales. Her work reminds us that innovation in healthcare often begins with listening, understanding, and responding to the needs of those we serve.
At HETI Higher Education, we are proud to support the development of future leaders who will continue this important work. By providing programs that integrate clinical expertise with leadership and research skills, we aim to equip health professionals to drive positive change in their communities.
