How to apply

You can apply for postgraduate study with HETI through our online application. If you require support or have questions you are welcome to contact our friendly Learning Pathways Unit for assistance with the application process. Read through the requirements for the Admissions process before starting. You will need to supply documentation appropriate to the application you make.

1. Entry Requirements

There are basic entry requirements descriptions available for Psychiatric Medicine and Applied Mental Health Studies.  Note that the type of documentation to prove you meet entry requirements varies depending on your chosen course and type of study. These are detailed in the process description for online admission.

All students need to provide Proof of Identity which includes a Certified copy of a Photo ID (Drivers Licence or Passport) and a Passport style photograph.

2. Advanced Standing

Applicants may request that their previous learning and experience be assessed for advanced standing towards a postgraduate award. If you wish to apply, please complete the Advanced Standing Application Form as you will need to upload it. Note that students who have completed NSW Institute of Psychiatry (NSWIOP) do not need to apply for Advanced Standing but should supply your academic transcript or details at the Qualifications section of the admission application.

3. Application

Within the online form you will be asked to:

• Indicate your course of study.
• Enter your personal details and provide Proof of Identity.
• Indicate when you wish to begin your study.
• Complete your application through a series of steps listed on the left hand side of the screen. All of these need to be completed however different courses require different documentation types.
  Please review your course requirements and note that, unless otherwise stated, you need to complete all * items in the process:
  • Postgraduate Course in Psychiatry (PCP) – Note you will not need to fill out the majority of the Qualification section – answer the Advanced Standing and English Language questions only. Within the Experience section you need to answer all questions but only upload proof of medical registration and Proof of College Trainee Membership (RANZCP membership) or Employee Statement for “non-accredited trainees”.
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) – Note you will not need to fill out the majority of the Qualification section – answer the Advanced Standing and English Language questions only. If you are not a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Advanced Trainee, please contact HETI Support support@heti.edu.au;
  • Professional Development (PD) – You do not need to supply any additional documentation beyond Proof of Identity.. Note you will not need to fill out the majority of the Qualification section – answer the Advanced Standing and English Language questions only;
  • Graduate Certificate – admission includes, in the Qualification section, detail of Previous Education, Previous Higher Education, and Current Qualification at postgraduate and undergraduate level with certified academic transcripts and testamurs required. Advanced Standing (if sought) and English Language Qualifications (if applicable) also need to be completed.
  • Graduate Diploma and Masters – applications for those students continuing with HETI Higher Education do not require any documentation to be uploaded. Where students wish to enter at these levels and they have not been studying with us, please see Graduate Certificate for details of required documentation.

Note that all sections not detailed above must be completed.

4. Accept your offer

Successful applicants will receive notification by email of their Letter of Offer. This will include a link to enable you to accept/decline your offer.

5. Enrolment

Once your offer has been accepted, you'll be able to progress and manage your enrolments through MyHETIconnect.
