Improving Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing is a national priority that requires local action underpinned by collaboration with Aboriginal individuals and communities. In this unit you will explore core concepts of collaboration with Aboriginal people and communities; and how you may apply these in assisting individuals with mental ill health. The unit will then ask you to consider how these principles in working with Aboriginal health workers as partners in contemporary mental healthcare.


Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate the collaborative decision-making processes required to work with peoples and communities; and
  2. Apply collaborative decision-making principles to working with Aboriginal peoples to adapt mental health care to improve Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

Week 1 Identifying local opportunities for improving Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing
Week 2 Collaborative decision making with Aboriginal individuals
Week 3 Collaborative decision making with Aboriginal communities
Week 4 Collaborating to respond to Aboriginal people with mental ill health
Week 5 Partnerships between Aboriginal health workers and other professionals
