HETI Higher Education’s purpose is to develop the NSW Health workforce’s and other learners’ capabilities in mental health. Supporting our students to succeed in their studies is core to how HETI operates and we are very aware of the additional demands and stressors across all sectors during the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the impact of COVID-19 is felt by our students due to their work within healthcare roles, it is rewarding to see their tenacity and commitment to developing improved mental health capabilities through their study. Students have been provided with additional support through a standard two week extension upon request, development of individual Student Support Plans that include adjusted submission dates to accommodate the stressors of the workplace, and increased support through our academic leads and a new tutorial support service. The tutorial support is being offered from a tutor with ESL expertise and in academic writing. This has resulted in increased engagement between various students and the units on offer.

The HETI team will work with its students in any ways needed to support their progress through their studies now and going forward as the pandemic is managed.
