Rod McKay Director Psychiatry & Mental Health Program

I moved into the role of Director of Psychiatry and Mental Health Programs because in every other role I have had worked in, the key factor determining quality of care has been the knowledge, skills and attitudes of clinicians.

The Psychiatric Medicine Framework of courses at HETI are unique in being designed ‘from the ground up’ to meet the curriculum and practice needs of psychiatry trainees, GPs and rural and remote medicine trainees wishing to advance their training in mental health. Every element of education is explicitly linked to these needs, with students having the support of professional leads focussed on the needs of these differing student groups.

The courses at HETI assist students to develop holistic recovery oriented practice that unifies scientific knowledge, practice wisdom, and lessons from people with lived experience. This is supported by maximum flexibility in participation through face to face, distance and on-line options.

My commitment is to hear from every student how we can continue to improve our courses because we know how quickly student needs can change, and our reason for being here is to meet those needs.

Join us in Semester 1, 2018 and make a difference in mental health.
