HETI Fellowships in Psychiatry: 2018 - 2019

Fellowships were formerly known as The NSW Institute of Psychiatry (NSWIOP) Fellowships

The Mental Health Portfolio of the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) is expecting to offer the following fellowships in psychiatry in 2018:

  • Training Fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Training Fellowships in Psychiatric Research
  • Special Training Fellowships in Psychiatry

Fellowships are provided to allow training or research in Mental Health in an area of interest to trainees. The scheme is competitive and successful applicants receive funding for up to one year.

Training Fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

HETI invites applications from medical practitioners who are eligible to enter Stage 3 of Training in Psychiatry or who are Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). Training Fellowships will be offered for a maximum of one year Full Time Equivalent and will commence in 2018. Full time training involves clinical placements in a variety of Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatry Units for four days per week, and attendance one day weekly at the HETI Child and Adolescent Psychiatry teaching course. The teaching course consists of supervision, didactic teaching and seminars. There is scope for up to 12 months to be spent in supervised research, subject to RANZCP training regulations. This training program is accredited with the RANZCP. Successful applicants will be entitled to a grant of the 4th year basic registrar rate, subject to award adjustments.

Training Fellowships in Psychiatric Research

Full-time and part-time Training Fellowships in Psychiatric Research are being offered for periods up to 12 months. Applications are invited from mental health related disciplines. Applicants should be novice researchers who are currently enrolled or considering enrolment in a research degree program. The research project will be conducted in the field of psychiatry to commence in 2018.  All projects must demonstrate applicability to clinical practice. Remuneration will be at the 4th year basic rate appropriate for the applicant’s discipline, subject to award adjustments.

Special Training Fellowships in Psychiatry

Special Training Fellowships in Psychiatry are being offered for periods up to 12 months for medical practitioners who are eligible to enter Stage 3 of Training in Psychiatry or who are Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).  The Fellowships are provided to allow training in areas of Psychiatry where little or no training is available and are designed to enable Fellows to acquire skills which would not be possible without the Fellowship.

Applicants must submit details of an education program and training experience that involves liaising with appropriate supervisors and experts in the field. Suitable areas of training include Psychogeriatrics, Forensic Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Administrative Psychiatry, Transcultural Psychiatry, Developmental Psychiatry, Indigenous Mental Health and other areas where additional training is required for clinical practice. Successful applicants will be entitled to a grant of the 4th year basic registrar rate, subject to award adjustments.
